Care Home Reminisence Event Marks Yorkshire Day

One of Yorkshire’s furniture icons, Shackletons, marked Yorkshire Day by treating local care home residents at Hopton Care Cottages in Mirfield to a reminiscence tea party which looked at the very Yorkshire birth of rugby league.

25 residents from the care home were taken down memory lane by Kirklees Council’s Museums & Galleries team who shared a number of reminiscence boxes which all contained multi-sensory objects to stimulate discussion and rekindle memories of the local area.

Jason Bloom, National Sales Manager at Shackletons says: “We have a great deal of Yorkshire pride, in fact we put our success down to Yorkshire. This year we wanted to mark Yorkshire Day by providing those who have contributed to our success with a special event. The main part of our business supplies the care sector with quality, bespoke furniture and what better way to say thank you than by putting smiles on faces during a good old tea party event.”

Kevin Martin, Managing Director of Hopton Care Cottages says: “We are really grateful to Shackletons and Kirklees Council for providing such an event. Our elderly residents will very much enjoy reminiscing about the good-old days of Yorkshire and it’s hoped much chat and laughter will bring back good memories and Yorkshire pride.

Shackletons have been in the business of creating comfort for over 50 years and are the UK’s leading provider of specialist furniture which is manufactured in Yorkshire. They employ 65 people over two sites; one the manufacturing and operations site on Weaving Lane in Dewsbury and the other a retail site on Bradford Road in Batley.
