The space demonstrates how fabric choice, furniture specification, and bespoke joinery can work together to deliver both aesthetic impact and functional benefits in senior living and care environments.
The Role of a Cosy Lounge in Care Environments
Cosy lounges are an essential feature in care home design, offering residents a comfortable and welcoming retreat. These spaces are styled to feel warm, homely, and inviting; a place where people can relax, unwind, and enjoy time together.
By prioritising comfort and atmosphere, a well-designed lounge can support:
- Wellbeing and relaxation by creating a calm, comforting environment.
- Social interaction through layouts that encourage conversation and connection.
- A sense of home with soft furnishings, warm colours, and carefully chosen details.
To achieve this, specification goes beyond simply selecting furniture. Thoughtful additions such as layered lighting, textured fabrics, decorative accessories, and artwork can all help to create a space that feels both personal and comforting – a true “home from home” within
Shackletons Showroom Lounge: Furniture and Joinery Specification
The overall scheme was developed to highlight how fabric and furniture specification integrate within a care environment.
Key elements include:
- The Loxley Fixed Back Four-Seater Sofa upholstered in Marble Boardwalk from the new Skopos Studio collection. Inspired by the traditional craft of marbling, the design’s retro aesthetic makes it ideal for reminiscent lounges. Printed on to Girona, an impervious healthcare velvet, it offers both luxury and the performance standards required for care environments.
- Elcot Armchairs specified in Agua Boucle Latte for contrasting texture.
- Loxley Armchairs in Skopos Gaia Reef which is made from recycled materials with Kiri Faux Leather Saddle piping, demonstrating use of mixed upholstery for definition and durability.
- Aberford Pedestal Table featuring a geometric turned base to complement the traditional furniture
- Hicks Coffee Table and Console Table bringing contrast through a refined modern frame.
- Bespoke Cabinetry in Reed Green, designed and manufactured by Shackletons, incorporating integrated feature lighting to add depth and atmosphere.
This balanced combination of upholstery, occasional furniture, and joinery demonstrates how a cohesive material palette can support both aesthetic and functional requirements.
“The lounge shows the value of collaboration and craftsmanship. From bespoke cabinetry to tailored upholstery, every detail has been designed with care environments in mind. It’s a demonstration of how Shackletons can deliver complete solutions – from concept and design through to manufacture and fit-out.”
