How old is Shackletons?

Our Dewsbury factory recently celebrated its half century, while our retail operation is nearly 60 years old. Although our chairs and furniture are handcrafted, we are leaders in e-design.

What is the company’s history?

For nearly 60 years, we have proudly brought the world’s most comfortable chairs to care homes and individuals. For more information, visit the history page.

How do you supply both trade and domestic customers?

A slick contract service meets the varied, often complex needs of care providers quickly and without fuss, while our retail outlet is geared to keeping individuals in their own homes. Meanwhile, a handpicked network of trusted designers/architects provides Shackletons products to businesses.

You can only obtain Shackletons products through Shackletons, which means you are buying directly from where the chairs are made and can be assured of the same consistent world class service and affordable prices.

What sectors do you service?

Shackletons is the UK’s leading specialist furniture provider to the healthcare sector, but we have broadened our customer base to include hospitality and leisure venues nationwide.

What is your product range?

We have gone far beyond our original offer of the highest quality easy chairs, high seat chairs and three-piece suites. There are now occasional chairs; dining tables, chairs and cabinets; coffee tables; beds and bedroom cabinets – and soft furnishings, artwork, memory boxes and dementia-friendly environments. We also provide whole room designs.

What is special about your products?

Our highly-skilled craftspeople make unique, stylish, durable furniture that is all about comfort, mobility, safety, freedom and enjoyment. Customer-centric and design-led, all but one production phase is handmade.

What is special about your services?

Our smooth contract operation has in-depth understanding of the needs of care providers and the pressures they work to, while our dedicated store has the highest retail service thresholds. Both offer the top-notch aftercare expected of high-end British manufacturing.

Which is more important – traditional or modern production techniques?

From day one, we have combined age-old craftsmanship with the latest sophisticated design processes. Working with the finest materials, this focus on both the handmade and technology makes our furniture unbeatably supportive and comfortable.

Are all products 100% British?

Our lounge and bedroom furniture are 100% manufactured in the UK. A small number of our products are sourced from leading manufacturers in Europe. We are uncompromising champions of quality manufacturing. Every material that goes into or onto our chairs is sourced from carefully-chosen, top-notch domestic suppliers. All work exclusively with peerless, home-produced items – naturally, this includes only beech hardwood, which is the finest medium for furniture manufacture.

Does high quality compromise turnaround?

Absolutely not. Our tight, efficient build process is unrivalled in both speed of delivery and levels of client care and engagement. The personal touch brought to production and service in every order, forges the close customer working relationships that enable this.

Every query is responded to within an hour; quotations are processed within a working day; firm orders are started to the same timescale. Typically, all jobs are completed and delivered in two weeks.

Do traditional crafts sit easily with hi-tech?

As the two areas have many parallels, including precision and excellence, they are very happily married! In fact, our maxim, “Quality in everything we do”, is achieved by bringing handmade build and advanced e-delivery together. Mass production is no substitute for the attention to detail, pride and knowledge of our skilled joiners, fabric cutters and stitchers – who all work deftly to web-based designs.

Where is your furniture store?

Our dedicated retail outlet is in Batley and has nearly 60 years of history of bringing people comfort, posture and support. Our friendly, expert staff have a mission to help individuals stay in their homes or assisted independent living spaces. Meanwhile, we will launch a stylish contemporary range of handmade chairs for younger families, when the store is upgraded, later in 2018. For more information, visit our Retail section.
